Hello, again!
An issue came up when I read the email Nick Thacker sent out. In his recent post, he confronts several Utopian Ideals a lot of writers hope for:
We hope our book will be the one single instance of Instant Fame And Fortune. So much time is spent actually writing the book (or, as in my case most times, procrastinating writing it), it should be not only ready to publish, but also what everyone has been waiting to read. How could it possibly fail?
Oh, how could anyone be under such a delusion, when it is actually my works they’ve been waiting for.
Wait. That isn’t right. Why would mine be any more important than that of anyone else? Or, vice versa for that matter.
As he put it:
“Overnight Success” Takes 10+ Years
I have heard that before.
I am darn near 50, and only started this path in 2010.
Of course, as he also puts it, Books Won’t Write Themselves, and There’s No Such Thing As A Muse. Which is actually a pity. The “Muse” part. Who the heck am I gonna blame when something slams me that has to be written at 1AM when I try to go to bed? Myself?
But, I have to admit my shortcoming; I do not write every day, nor do I blog once a week. I do not sit on Twitter trying to carry on a RT conversation. I DO spend way too much time on game sites (match 3 games have me hooked).
I self-published a poetry book that I did not have edited. Indeed, most are first draft writings. I rushed in to the deal with one purpose: I wanted a real book with my name on it. That’s what I got. The only sales I got were the Author’s copies I sold to family members. Truth being, I really didn’t go through with it to sell, just to brag that I have a real book that I wrote. I even got an acknowledgement letter from The Library Of Congress.
Now, as I said before, I have an issue with procrastination. I might try to do something about it, “when I get a round to it.”
Then, I got an invite for the
