The 7/7/7 Challenge

The 777 Challenge

Candice Coates has, I guess the term is, tagged me to participate in a blog challenge, along with six others. (The page for this challenge has disappeared. I contacted her, and she said she has no idea where it took off to.)

Our task, should we choose to accept, is to follow some simple rules in order to post a snippet of a WIP (Work In Progress) at the Author’s discretion.

The rules are simple:

  • Go to page 7 of your WIP (Or an older work that you have done and just love- Candice added this part 😉 )
  • Scroll down to line 7
  • Share the next 7 sentences in a blog post.
  • After the excerpt tag 7 other writers to continue the challenge.

So, first things first. This excerpt is where Able, trusted pupil of Zhan the Elder, is confronting the traveling tribe of the Frozen Wastes, known as The Chosen Ones, to rid the region of their tyranny. Let’s join the scene as it unfolds:

He summoned the flames to return, aiming them towards the gully from where the dancing shadows announced guests. The path burst with orange and red fires, bright enough to illuminate the clouds high above, and eliminated the five scouts sent to initiate the counter attack.

The Sorcerer used a few moments to gather his wits for more battle. He pushed the unneeded magics aside within himself and surveyed the rocky landscape.

Reclaiming his discarded sword and plucking the short sword from its resting place, he wiped some of the blood onto the corpse and readied himself for the finale.

Sound interesting? If you care to, check out the entire encounter here, and leave me a comment; like, dislike, indifferent, other?

Now, here is where I fall short of the challenge: I am not going to tag anyone, for those on my “list” either do not participate (to the best of my knowledge) in these kinds of challenges, or they have been tagged already. I don’t really have a huge list of contacts.

I’m going to leave it open, though.

Anyone reading this who is interested in taking up the challenge, please feel free! Just make sure you follow the rules (At least as many of the rules as you feel comfortable with), and include the appropriate links so others who might not have enjoyed your stuff can find it.

If you post the link in the comment section below, I’m told it creates a pingback so folks on your list can come see mine, and vice versa.

So, there it is. I hope this is a satisfactory response to the challenge.

On an aside, I am just about done tweaking a post I had started some weeks ago, when the #BlogBattle prompt was “Rage”. The excerpt I wanted ran 600 words or more over the limit, so I did not submit it, and subsequently it still sits dormant in my Draft folder. I’m going to try getting my keister in gear and publishing it either today or tomorrow (July 12th or 13th, 2015 just for clarification.)

Till Next Time

#WriteOn!

      1. I must be confused. All this blonde hair, I am sure of it.
Or, is that someone else’s excuse?
So, to add clarity, the post for “rage” is from The Barbarian, titled “Fort Burning.”
The current submission to the #BlogBattle is on The Velah.
        My boo-boo.

      2. LOL I think we both got lost in translation there. Maybe I more so than you, because I assumed that because I became aware of you and your writing via the blogbattles that you were referring to those when you mentioned the word “rage.” My mistake, however I still intend to read what you have posted 😀

      3. I did mean the #BlogBattle, when the prompt was “rage”. I had wanted to make it, but had too many words. (Story of my life: Everything has a detailed explanation, and none can be truncated.)

      4. I must be blond then too lol! That 1000 word thing is tough for me as well as I am a very LOOOONNNNG winded writer. I have been challenging myself to even go below the 1000 word mark…I think I have managed to do so maybe twice.
